Visio

If you want to talk, you can join the LBMC_bioinfo on the bigbluebutton of the CNRS.

If I am not on it, you can send me an email, or contact me on element .

You can also easily create your own conference room from the ent.ens-lyon.fr website.

Chat

After more than 1 year, we made an assessment of our usage of Citadel the chat solution bought by the CNRS: it didn’t meet our expectations. This may be caused by the numerous, small bugs and limitations, the old-fashioned interface, or the fear of using vulnerable proprietary solution (like the recent scandals with zoom and teams. All of which we cannot change.

This is why, a growing number of LBMC members and teams switched recently on element.io/matrix.org.

Why the two names ?

element.io is a client, like your mail application, while matrix.org is the protocol, like the protocols of your mail server(s).

Why element.io/matrix.org?

  • It’s free and open source (app exists for Web, Android, iOS, macOS, Windows & Linux, not like Citadel)
  • It offers the same security guarantees as Citadel (matrix.org is used by the DINUM) with end to end encryption by default (not like Slack)
  • It has built-in voice and video call (no need to switch to another platform for that)
  • The history is unlimited by default (not like slack)
  • You can group chat rooms by communities (not like Citadel)
  • It has a federated architecture (like for the mail, different matrix.org servers can talk with each other)
  • You have widgets to connect to Slack channels and others chat platforms (so you can have all your conversations in one place, even to keep in touch with your collaborators who choose to share their work conversations with the cloud act)

If you want to join us, you can create an account on the main matrix.org public server here (the name of this server is matrix.org which can be confusing). You will get a matrix identifier of the shape @yourpseudo:matrix.org.

The client application can be downloaded here.

You will then be able to join the LBMC community and the associated rooms (you may have to ask for an invitation for some of them).

Finally if you are ok with sharing your phone number, you can also join us on Signal like all the cool kids.
